Doing well here on day 9. I’m definitely coping with breakfast better and did it again this morning in two goes, with my nose held 🙂
My stomach was somewhat upset this afternoon, which is unusual and the first time this has happened. It didn’t recur over the rest of the day so hopefully just a random event.
My test kit arrived today ready for the day 15 testing. It’s getting real now. I so hope this has been worth it.
I’m starting to think about what to do at the end of the elemental diet, as in, how do I transition back to real food, and what type of diet do I eat as an ongoing thing. I’m quite sure that going out and eating a full ‘normal’ meal straight away isn’t going to end pleasantly.
A few suggestions I’ve had are to start with a modified GAPS style diet. GAPS is a gut healing diet that is heavily based on bone broth and easy to digest food to give you gut a rest. I think this could be a good start… modified to be SIBO friendly though. The typical bone broth uses garlic and onion which I definitely don’t want to have for some time – these are very problematic for SIBO, and while my SIBO should technically be healed, I don’t want to risk relapse in the short term. Also, making chicken broth using the chicken bones is a problem as the cartilage in the bones releases substances that are problematic. So, I need to make a broth from chicken meat, but not bones, and using other vegetables that are going to be safe. Nevertheless, I think this will be a good place to start for a first meal.
Following that, I’m thinking of soup or some cooked veggies. For a while, probably at least 3 months, I intend to follow a low carb, low-ish FODMAP type diet, in order to prevent relapse. Then, maybe, I can be more liberal with my diet. It will be a work in progress!
